Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Explain the indications, contraindications, and physiological considerations of various mechanical circulatory support devices commonly used to support patients in cardiopulmonary and device or devices appropriate for specific clinical circumstances.
  2. Develop an approach to detect and troubleshoot malfunctioning and malpositioning of various mechanical circulatory support (MCS) devices commonly used to support patients in cardiopulmonary shock.
  3. Interpret the literature and best practices for managing patients with cardiopulmonary shock and determine exit strategies and liberation from mechanical circulatory devices.
  4. Describe best practices and available literature through case-based discussion for the use of pharmaceutical agents in patients requiring mechanical circulatory support.
