Overview

Black, Latinos, and LGBTQ+ community members face barriers that decrease their utilization of cancer screenings, leading to later stage diagnosis and lower survival rates than their counterparts. These target groups also have unique risk factors, some of which may be modifiable. These factors can also lead to worse outcomes. Better understanding of the barriers and risks which impact diverse communities can allow health care providers to play an important role in delivering effective and high quality, accessible care for cancer screening and early detection. We need to raise awareness of the importance of cancer screenings for all communities.
